Communication/ Collaboration
Create a novel interface to augment in-person and/or remote communication and collaboration. For this we decided to focus on Person to Pet communication and created the Pet Pawty

Contributions:​

Sketches: We each drew 10 base sketches, and 10 refinements, in which 3 were chosen from each, and the last one was voted on.

Stop Motion Concept Video: We brainstormed and filmed our stop motion concept video together; Spencer moved the props, while Tian filmed the video, and Macks acted as the user. Tian edited the video and uploaded it to YouTube.

Implementation: Spencer and Macks coded the Normal Site, in which the user can record, send and receive video messages. Tian coded the VR aspect, in which the user can have an immersive experience in watching the received video. Tian worked on coding the Toios to move at our command with key bindings for different behaviours. Macks designed and created the logo as well as the puppy art.

Demo: We brainstormed and filmed our demo video together; Spencer recorded the video, while Tian controlled the Toios, and Macks acted as the user. Macks recorded a voice-over describing our project design. Tian edited the video and uploaded it to YouTube. Then for the Recordings, Macks acted and voiced over the videos, with Spencer and Tian recording. Tian then did the video editing.

Presentation: We recorded Spencer's screen, while we all explained our sketches. Macks recorded the entire presentation, Tian edited and posted it on YouTube.

Inspire communication/collaboration. Here we tried to decide what this truly meant. For many ideas it was human to human communication and collaboration. We created 10 base idea sketches to see which ones really resonated with us. After much deliberation we ended up realizing we wanted to focus on Human to Pet communication and collaboration. But we were able to use many of the base ideas that were originally meant for Human - Human for our Pet ideas. These are the 10 base sketches created by Spencer, Tian and I.
Stop Motion Narrative StoryBoard
Tasked with creating a narrative storyboard to present the project idea, we created this. It is a stop motion concept video describing our idea for the Pet Pawty. Our Idea is a video messaging service linked with Toios for users to communicate with their pet. The user records a message for their pet and sends it. The dog sitter receives the message and shows it to the pet. While the video is playing a Toio in sync with the video would move forward to simulate the owners hand allowing the dog to interact with it. The dog sitter now records a video of the pet to be sent to the user. Once receiving the video, the user can now watch this video in VR. When the pet gives their paw in the video the Toios once again in sync move up to give the owner high five in VR. This allows for users to have a more realistic experience with their pet when away. Allowing for user and pet communication.

From our base Sketches we decided on focusing on Human - Pet interactions for communication and/or collaboration. We focused our refinements on trying to create an idea/refinement to help us reach this goal. These are a collection of 10 of our ideas on how to simulate the pet for the user, as well as other unique ideas on bettering human - pet communication.
Presentation
Since class is now over and we can no longer present to the class, we have recorded our presentation going over each of the 10 base sketches. Explaining what the idea was behind each one. We then also presented our 10 refinement sketches once again explaining the plan for each idea.

Pet Pawty
For our Social/remote communication/interaction project, we decided to choose what we felt was a unique path, which was Human to Pet interaction. Specifically, we wanted to help owners and pets connect when they have been separated for a long period of time, such as business trips or vacations, where the pet cannot be brought along. After going through many ideas, we decided to do a video messaging chat app, which included a combination of our refinements. It is similar to snap chat, in which the owner can leave their pets messages. If there is a pet sitter, they can help the pet see the message and interact using toios. In return, the pet can also send a message back to the owner, and allow the owner to experience interaction using toios. The owner can choose to view the video message normally, or in VR, to give them a more immersive experience.
